The House
Located in a quiet neighborhood in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Retreat is the main house (a separate in-law unit at the rear is leased to a long-term tenant).
A Midcentury Retreat
This classic California bungalow, while modest in size, still captures the exuberant style of the 50's.
The living/dining area features exposed beams and a high ceiling, a window-wall opening to a sunny private garden, hardwood floors and brick fireplace. Comfortable furnishings in a balanced palette make the room restful and inviting.
The kitchen has been renovated with all modern conveniences and a large center island workspace, while its restored 1950 O'Keefe & Merritt stove and period linoleum floors still channel the mid-century vibe.
Bedroom #1 features a queen bed with his-and-hers nightstands, a large double dresser, and an oriental carpet over the hardwood floor. The closet is fitted with double rods and shelving.
Bedroom #2 can double as an office or playroom when its murphy bed is stowed away. The murphy bed is a platform bed with a comfortable full-sized mattress. This room also opens to the rear courtyard.
The rear courtyard is a quiet, Zen-style garden surrounded in bamboo, with dining table and gas grill for al fresco dining. The front courtyard is a good spot for morning coffee while watching the world walk by.
The full bathroom (with shower over tub) retains its original sky-blue fixtures, with updated plumbing.
A separate laundry/utility room holds a washer, dryer, ironing board, and an outdoor drying rack for those who like to use old-fashioned sunshine.
Amenities and Services
Cable TV, high-speed wireless internet, weekly housekeeping service, and gardening service are included at no extra charge. (Tenant pays power and water.) A separate laundry room off the kitchen serves both units. There is one dedicated parking space in the driveway, and additional street parking is always available, no parking permits needed.
